robotic surgery-first of its kind
By Matrixkavi
Yesterday had been the World Doctor's Day and so i thought I should dedicate today's hub for those dedicated professionals who work hard to save lives of many in their daily life. But the incident about which I am going to describe here is, perhaps, another first-of-the-kind operation in medical history about which India and Delhi of course, can be proud of.
The first two robotic laproscopic surgery for prostrate cancer was done in India on April 29, 2005. It was done at AIIMS(All India Institute of Medical Science) by Dr Ashok Hemal and team.
The robot assisted radical prostatectomy was performed on a 62 yr old doctor. It took two hours and ten minutes for the laproscopic and robotic surgeon, Dr Hemal and his team to complete the operation. The second operation was that of a 52 yr old government official in the evening. The computer assisted surgery gives the surgeon a three dimensional view providing the depth perception, 10 to 15 times more the magnification and seven degrees movement (equal to the movement of human arm) The process was pioneered by Dr Mani Menon, Henry Ford Hospital, USA.
