Farhan Akthar-the director, the actor, the singer, the writer

Listening to the "Pichle saat dinon mein" from Rock On(2008),I feel very good to write this little piece of praise about multi-talented Farhan Akthar, son of the famous lyricist Javed Akthar and Honey Irani. Farhan Akthar is perhaps one of those few film directors of Bollywood who instantly gained fame right from his directorial debut. Indeed very few directors have this luck of having a Box-office hit as his/her debut film.

Above all, after taking into consideration the crew of his successful films, one could comment (at least about the music side) that it was actually the combination of music direction of the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, lyrics of Javed Akthar and of course, his direction that lead to success of Farhan's films.

Speaking frankly, I was totally fascinated at the ever superhit Dil Chahta hai(2001). It was Farhan's directorial debut as well as one for Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. What was more appealing was the plot, the way it was narrated and through his works in the film, Farhan anyway succeeded in proving it first that he was as good as his father in literature.

Following it was his second film Lakshya for which Javed Akthar wrote lyrics and the same trio did the music direction. Though this was a box-office flop, I would insist on seeing the film because the plot(Javed Akthar), music(Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) and choreography(Prabhu Deva) were equally good. The music of Lakshya still grabs attention of many while playing on a radio channel or so. The plot was also good and I wonder why the film dint come up..

But after this, Farhan made another attempt and this time, he made the remake of Don (originally starred by Amitabh Bachan) with SRK playing the leading role. The script was written by Javed alongwith his old cowriter Salim Khan. Music again by Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy.Again his talent in screenplay was brought to light and Don was a big hit at the box-office.

Following this was another film in 2007, positive, but that was not recieved properly at box-office. Folowing it is this film which is the hot topic of the month-"Rock On". Farhan Akthar made his debut as and actor and singer in Rock On. The lyrics of Javed Akthar coupled with music of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy definitely rocks! Farhan's sound seems to be the best choice the trio had taken as it suits well to the songs like "Rock On", "pichle saat dinon mein" and the like.

So can we arrive at a conclusion that it is this combination of the father and son with the musical trio that makes almost all of their work a big success? Let's wait and watch anyway!
